Add labels to your map

Add labels to your maps

Labels allow you to add text from your dataset to the map. This is very convenient if you quickly want to see more information about a certain area. Below you can read the step-by-step tutorial on how to add labels.

Adding labels to points

1. To add labels to points on your map you have to select the data layer in which the points are located. A list will appear with a few options. Press the EDIT LABELS option.

2. A drop down menu will appear. First turn the visibility of the layers on by clicking the switch. After that you can select the data column you want to add as a label to your map. In this example I pick the name column.

3. For the styling of the text of your lables you have the following options:

  • Font: Font Family, Size (px), Color
  • Halo: Color, Size (px)

4. For placing the labels you have the following options:

  • Label placement: For points only the point label placement is possible. This functionality will place a label on top of the point.
  • Label Offset: The label offset defines how many pixels the label is offset from the point it belongs to. Positive values move the label down, negative values move it up. In the example you can see an offset of 0. This value is used when you want to place a label exactly on top of the point.
  • Label overlap: Here you can choose if you want to show or hide overlapping labels on a map.

Keep in mind!
When you want to place the label on top of the point (offset = 0), make sure that the label overlap is TRUE. Otherwise your label will not be shown.

Adding labels to lines

1. To add labels to lines on your map you have to select the data layer in which the lines are located. A list will appear with a few options. Press the EDIT LABELS option.

6. Press APPLY to confirm.

  • Label placement: For lines you can select the line placement and vertex placement option. The line option places the label along the line. The vertex option places the label on top of the vertex points of which the line (see example below) consists.

Adding labels to polygons

1. To add labels to polygons on your map you have to select the data layer in which the line is located. A list will appear with a few options. Press the EDIT LABELS option.

  • Label overlap: Shows or hides overlapping labels on a map.

  • Label placement: For polygons you can select the interior placement, line placement and vertex placement option. The interior option places the label in the middle of the polygon. The line option places the label along the lines of the polygons. The vertex option places the label on top of the vertex points that create the polygon (see examples below).
