Assignment 5: Create a new dataset with spatial join
access_time 7 MIN | fiber_manual_record INTERMEDIATE | label TRAINING, DATA, ADVANCED, ASSIGNMENT, CREATE A NEW DATASET WITH SPATIAL JOIN
This assignment will teach you how to join your datasets with a spatial join. You will need the following:
- Spotzi Mapbuilder account (My Data)
- Training data file ‘Assignment 5 manager sample‘
- Training data file ‘Assignment 5 points sample join‘
- Join application in the Spotzi Mapbuilder
First upload the 2 files from the assignment 5 folder to the Mapbuilder. You can give them any name you want. In this example, we will name our tables ‘instructions_assignment_5_manager_sample’ and ‘assignment_5_points_sample_join’.
When you have uploaded the data, open the drop-down menu from one of the 2 datasets and navigate to the ‘join dataset’ option. Choose the spatial join option to start the process. Keep in mind that you want to join the 2 sets based on the geometry in each dataset and keep all the information of both sets, except the geometry of the data from ‘assignment_5_points_sample_join’.
You can give the table any name you want. In this example, we will name our table ‘assignment_5_spatial_data’. After this process is finished, please check your outcome in the answer section to see if you have all the information needed.
Keep in mind that the mapbuilder gives the columns of the joined data an extra additive.
