Change column type

Change column type

When importing a dataset into Spotzi every column has a specific type. The column type of every column can be found in the data view. The following types are distinguished:

  • String
  • Number
  • Date
  • Boolean

These column types are quite important. Every type has its own SQL queries.  At the same time some types don’t allow certain layer styling. For example, if you want to style your map layer based on range you can only use number column types. To change the column type you have to take the following steps:

1. Go to the data view.

Change Column Type

2. Click the arrow next to the column header. Now a drop down menu will appear. Select CHANGE DATA TYPE.

3. Select the data type. In this example we pick the numbers type.

Keep in mind! Postal code data as a string type field
The most common mistake is made with postal codes. In some cases postal code datasets have a string (text) type instead of a number. This type doesn’t allow you to create a range map styling based on postal codes.
