When you have multiple datasets you can join these datasets together. The process of joining 2 datasets together is done with the Join App. To open the Join App, click on the ‘options’ button behind one of the datasets you want to join. This will give you the ‘Join dataset’ option.
This will bring you to the start screen of our Join App.
The first method will join the dataset based on corresponding values within each set. This can be useful if you want your dataset to be plotted on the map. A good example is joining an Excel file with households per postal code with postal code boundaries. In that case, the process it would look like this:
In the next step you have to select which datasets you want to be joined. Make sure that the data type of each column is the same!
Did you know…
The dataset that is chosen on the on the right side will get ‘merge_’ in front of its data columns. If you want to save yourself some work select the dataset with the most columns on the right side.
After selecting your dataset, we need to tell the system which corresponding columns will be used to connect each dataset.
Did you know…
Underneath the column names is the data type. When you select a column on one side, the other side will only show you the columns which have the same data type.
When you have chosen the right datasets and columns click ‘Next step’. In this window you can select all the columns you want to use in your new dataset. Remember to choose the geometry of the correct dataset.
After this you only need to give it a name and run the join. After completion, the app will create a new dataset. This way you will not lose the original datasets that you used for this data join.
