This map depicts the official borders and names of all municipalities in the Netherlands. This is the administrative segmentation of the Netherlands in 2018. Relative to the year 2017, the number of Dutch municipalities decreased from 388 in 2017 to 380 in 2018. A decreasement of 8 municipalities. This resegmentation taken place in the following municipalities.
The new municipality ‘Westerwolde’ has been created from a fusion of the municipalities Bellingwedde and Vlagtwedde in the province of Groningen.
Additionally, Hoogezand-Sappemeer, Slochteren and Menterwolde have merged together to become the new municipality called Midden-Groningen.
The municipality Waadhoeke (province of Friesland) has been created due to the merge of the municipality het Bildt, Franekeradeel, Menameradeel and a part of Littenseradiel. An other part of Littenseradiel has been added to the fusion of the municipalities Leeuwarden and Leeuwarderadeel. This fusion wil continue as the municipality of Leeuwarden. The last part of Littenseradiel is added to the municipality Súdwest-Fryslân.
The last fusion of municipalities has taken place in the province of Gelderland. Here, the municipality Rijnwaarden has been added to the minicipality Zevenaar.
