4-digit postal code Austria

This data depicts the boundaries of all 4-digit postal code areas in Austria. The Austrian postal code system is developed by the Austrian national postal service (Austrian Post) to divide Austria into different areas. With this system each Austrian region gets a unique code and locations can be found easily. Postal codes in Austria are known as Postleitzahlen.

The 4-digit postal code has the following structure:

  • The first digit identifies a geographic Austrian delivery area
  • The second digit identifies a routing area
  • The third defines the route (car/truck/train) the mail takes throughout Austria
  • The fourth digit defines the Austrian routing city

The current postal code (postleitzahl) range of Austria (AT) is: 1000 – 9992. The lowest 4-digit postal code (1000) starts in the Austrian capital Vienna. The highest postal code (9992) is located in Iselsberg-Stronach in the state Tirol
