This dataset depicts the boundaries of all 5-digit postal code areas in Spain. This Spanish postal code system is developed by the Spanish national postal service (Correos) to divide Spain in different areas. With this system each Spanish region gets a unique code and locations can be found easily.
Postal codes in Spain are known as código postal. These postal codes were introduced in 1976, when the Spanish postal service implemented automatic sortation in their business. Bigger cities, like Barcelona and Madrid are divided in different districts, which look a lot like the structure in Paris.

- The first two digits represent a province
- The third digit represents a large Spanish town or main delivery rounds
- The last two digits feature the delivery area, secondary delivery route or link with rural areas
