The Ukrainian postal code system was introduced in 1971, during the period when Ukraine was still part of the Soviet Union. In this period, the system consisted of six digits. After Ukraine gained its independence in 1991, the postal code system was revised to reflect the new country's administrative divisions and restructured to five digits. In 2017, the Ukrainian postal code system was revised again. During this change, the postal code format still consisted of five digits, but it was now separated by a space. Today, the Ukrainian postal code system is an integral part of the country's postal service, also known as Ukrposhta, helping to ensure the accurate and timely delivery of mail and packages to their intended destinations.

The current 3-digit postal codes (poshtovyy indeks) in the Ukraine (UA) range from 010 - 990. The lowest 3-digit postal code (010) targets the Ukrainian capital of Kiev. The highest postal code (990) is located in Sebastopol.
Structure
Ukrainian postal codes consist of three characters. These characters represent the following:
